The best way to install them is through the F-Droid store, which is a catalogue of FOSS software for Android. It's installable by downloading the .apk file linked on the front page of the F-Droid projec'ts website. The mentioned apps from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology can then be found by searching for "SECUSO", which is the name of the research project behind them all.

I'd like to start using 'digital wallets' like Pass Android or fpass but things like tickets or membership cards only provide links to 'add to google wallet'

Or apple wallet for that matter. I'm pretty new to the concept of a digital wallet, and I'm guessing that if I eschew these google and apple offerings then I'm not really doing much beyond basically a folder called 'passes' but nonetheless a dedicated app that only opens pdfs and images and 'passes' rather than anything else still seems helpful.

From an academic perspective, last year we published an open letter emphasizing the critical importance of open-source EDA for academia in Europe. We were excited and grateful to see that this initiative triggered the definition of a European roadmap in this area, and a matching Chips JU call for project funding. We believe that the projects funded by this call will have a significant impact. Moreover, we already see rising interest from many EU stakeholders, with increasing investments into open-source chip design, especially in open source IP development (e.g. RISC-V cores), and open source EDA tools.

I'm a FLOSS/linux enthusiast. Over the years I have learned some scripting, and can get around in git. Occasionally I fork someone else's project to suit it to myself. Shell scripts, webapps, browser extensions etc. The kind of thing you can work in the source of without actual programming knowledge by just looking at text files.
