PieFed Meta

Currently, if you copy a range of cells in a spreadsheet program like LibreOffice Calc, Microslop Excel, Google Sheets, etc. and then paste into a textbox in PieFed, it will upload that as an image file representing that range of data. If that is what a user intends to do, it works great for that. But I think that more often than not, what the user actually wants to do when pasting in from a spreadsheet is for that data to be a markdown-formatted table, not an image file. I would like to see this as the default behaviour for PieFed.

Suggested this for Mlem, but with blocking being implemented directly by Piefed, perhaps this feature would be better suited here.

If PieFed is so great at replacing chatrooms (like Discord), why are we on zulip and Matrix?

This post got me thinking: on Discord we've been using "HammerTime tags" so the time in a message was being translated to everyone's local time. Here it would, of course, necessitate everyone to set up their timezone in the settings but apart from that, I guess it could be doable too, right?

I'm really loving PieFed but there's one nagging thing that's making it tough to fully switch over from Lemmy. I post a lot of news articles. The autofill works great but there are many news sites that fail every time -- CBC, Tyee, The Atlantic, NYT, WaPo are a few examples (probably cloudflare issues). You can copy-paste the headline and subheading but no-go for the image. Lemmy solved this by having a separate field to either upload or link to a image. As it stands, probably ~40% of the articles I'd post just look bad in the feed without a possible fix. It'd be great to have a similar feature to resolve it.

Ok this is going to sound pretty wierd but I think the use case is solid especially going forward. So with really specific communities that you are not really a part of that you are not a part of but would like to see what comes out of it. Well it would be nice to sorta be stopped from posting or replying. Maybe not completely but to give you a warning. So my example is there is a medicine community for medical professionals (this is a bit odd for me as I did work in blood diagnostics for a few years and have a micorbiology degree but it is a long ago and relative to my age short span of my life) and I don't view myself as part of that community. In some cases maybe I block the community if im uninteresed so I don't peanut gallery them but in this I sorta want to see them. So it would be nice to like mark it so I see posts and replies and stuff but as I said if I reply or post it might give me a popup that says something like you marked this community read only to remind me observing a conversation of professionals that expect to be conversing with people in their own field.

It would be nice if there was a way to favorite a community so that when you open the Communities tab, your favorites are listed at the top similar to how Voyager does it.

Sometimes I'll make or read a comment and want to stay abreast of all the conversation beneath it, including replies to replies and so on. I can obviously manually switch on notifications for each reply as they come in, but an option to do that automatically would be great.

A really useful setting to have if there was an option where post with certain flairs gets deleted automatically after a fixed period of time since the post have been created.

I noticed something about crossposts and I'm curious if anything should happen differently with a very minor aspect of it.

On PieFed World v1.1.7-13-ge3e624cc, currently only Passkeys and OAuth authentication is supported in the settings. I'm not sure if Piefed Social latest v1.3.6 version supports TOPT 2FA or if this issue is only pertaining to Piefed World instance.

A lot of awesome things I configured. One thing though is the don't show things you read. I would love it if it was a check box or something always present in the header. Basically it would be great to have it enabled but you kinda want to be able to simply and quickly disable it if you want to go back and look at something you had looked at earlier without going into settings. EDITED - hey so was thinking about it more and a mark as read in the feed would up how useful the don't show read option is. EDIT2 - so you know I generally don't up or down vote but this feature is useful enough that I realize I can control by upvoting everything that I ironically don't want to see in my feed when I refresh. Its a bit disingenuous but im not sure it matters as the problem with voting are peoples standars are so very different overall.

It'd be nice to be able to tag certain users with a color, emoji, or text. It would help with noticing users that have been helpful/friendly, or users that post certain genres of content.

I was thinking about moderation in PieFed after reading @rimu@piefed.social mention he doesn’t want NSFW content because it creates more work to moderate. But if done right, moderation shouldn’t fall heavily on admins at all.

TL;DR I want Mastodon hashtags treated like communities.

So, PieFed's way of retrieving a post that you're viewing on a "wrong" instance is quite slow for the user. You press the icon with the magnifying glass, scroll to the bottom of the page, read texts on both of the buttons, choose the correct one (Retrieve post), then wait for the page to load – which is suprisingly slow, then paste the URL in the field and press enter, and then wait for the next page to load and still have to press a link.

I kinda feel like active should be like top with a drop down. So most active in the last hour, 6 hours, 12hours, day, week, month, year. Seems to me top and active are basically the same but top is more like highest rated and active is like most commented. Both are essentially a metric that changes based on the amount of time taken into account.

I normally do not directly ask for something but boy oh boy I would like topics to appear above communities in the community drop down. Barring that just a drop down that made looking over topics easier.

Please add a way to upload images in replies and posts without requiring an image link when selecting image for the post type it doesn't require image link and I can directly upload it helps the context in other post types like discussions link and poll.

Sometimes I write a comment on a post that is relatively new. Often, in such cases, I am interested in what others comment. Having a checkbox to get notified of other comments (effectively clicking the bell button via the action of commenting) would be handy

Tl;dr: I think we have too much "empty" content and noise here and it drags down the place for 2 years now. Does PieFed include an approach to change the situation?
