Yeah, but it's 2025

follow the source link to get more up to date info

that is a very sudden increase, what happened then?

I mean this whole chart is 3 months, that big increase is under a week

Death of third-party Reddit apps due to exorbitantly increased prices for API usage.

That's why I'm here! And I've never looked back 😁

The fallout afterwards and the insane fascist backlash from the overlord is what drove me here. Also never looked back as far as daily use goes, but sadly searches and specific niche cases (SFW, lol) still bring me there occasionally.

the reddit blackout protests over api usage fees.

I'm thinking reddit is cracking down more of speech. Heavier moderation can lead to something like this.

i wonder what things will be like if lemmy ever gets large enough to warrant attention from vulture funds and the american gov't

The admins are principled Marxists so they wouldn't sell out or concede without a fight.

Well, not to the US at least.

Even if we sold out, at most they could get control over lemmy.ml and the git repository. Other instances are under no obligation to upgrade to new Lemmy versions, and could switch to a forked project if needed. The vast majority of Lemmy isnt under our control at all (which is the major difference compared to Reddit).

that's only true for the minority of instances on the lemmverse and the american government likes to use "bread and stick" tactics to force people to do things.

Which will only matter if those instances are hosted in the US, which a lot aren't.

you say that as if the american gov't doesn't have a reach outside this country...

At the moment, apart from Russia, you might've noticed the US is going through a bit of a sticky phase with its once-friends.

i'm convinced it's temporary.

... Try ~12 million.

Its 2025, not 2023; your graph is old af.

/edit for some reason I completely skimmed the title and focused on the quoted text... Ocf it's old, it's talking about the most upvoted post on lemmy 🤦

Its a repostt of a ~2 years old post, when lemmy reached 1 million

And also has nothing to do with upvotes.

I think the title means that the re-posted post is the most-opvoted post of all time on lemmy. It is the top of all time on lemm.ee, on lemmy.world it's a can of beans, and on my home instance kbin.earth it's a news article

Or averages, it seems to be absolute counts each day

I refuse to believe any year past 2020 happened.

People say time travel is impossible but it was 2020 yesterday and now people tell me it's five years later?

I wish the next four years fly by like the last five.

All of this is confusing af

Why did you repost this? I don't understand

Because the original post is the most up-voted lemmy post ever, apparently

Well I just went and gave it another upvote😂

Hah take that wall street, we can make line go up too!

pff - the real pros can make line go down

!["Year to date" of Tesla stock value, as of mid-March 2025. The value has been roughly halved since the inauguration of Donald J. Trump.

On the day of the screenshot the stock is down more than 5% with the market having been open for less than three hours.](https://media.kbin.earth/9b/70/9b70c5c991080b8080e8de49011512babe1ec22e0002890bfb840436ffabbd80.png)

Oh, cool, it's already close to completely reversing the uptick from the Trump's ad.

What happened in the total lemmy comments per day graph?
