[fluff post] If lemmy users are Lemmites, what would we like to call piefed users?

the piefed logo with a question mark drawn on top of it

I just thought this might make a fun discussion thread for folks to chat about ideas and make silly pie jokes.

I'm curious to hear what folks think would be fun, or work well!

I thought Lemmy users were lemmings.

I completely forgot "lemmings" 😅😅

I've probably actually seen that one more, I don't know how I forgot it lol

Don't worry about him, he's just an anti-Lemmite

FOR THE LAST TIMES, LEMMY USERS ARE LEMMINGS.
also, I got a good name for the american piefed users!

I thought we were Lemmings.....

Slices

Not too late for PieFed to rename "communities" to "slices"

This is a quite fun one

cutie pies

Cutie pies!! 🥹

The only downside is it might not be the most self explanatory

(Off-topic, but your username is fantastic!)

Thanks! I think some buddies came up with it when I was young. It sounds slightly similar to my surname.

Lemmy users are lemmings

I think Piefed users can be called Piefeddites

It's Lemmings not Lemmites, so keeping that same energy... Piefeedings? Piefeddings? I think Piefedders sounds better, though none of them are great.

However, Piefed does have fed in it like fediverse, so it's not a bad name, just hard to riff off of.

Fatties?

After being fed so many pies

This seems like as good a time as any to plug !pies@piefed.social for everything pie-related.

Okay but don't forget about the PieFed memes community!! !piefed_promo@piefed.social

Example post:

waiting for new features on Reddit, picture of a skeleton on a park bench

I said it before and I'll say it again: call us all "the Feds".

Piefeeders PieFeds(like federal agent) piffids piefedditors pies magpies

Its a hard one for names, maybe the name should come from the instance like blarj users.

I think refering to people on piefed as feds without context would be hilarious.

How people will see us then:

obviously an old dressed like a kid, saying "how do you do fellow kids"?

I'm down. I'm already a fellow kids guy as it is.

Welcome fellow human! Ah... I mean "kid", yes, we are just going to kill all sentient lifeforms "kidding" around here, certainly nothing for the authorities to get involved in, move along! :-P

Magpies seems very cute, but like my other favorite so far, might not be super self explanatory

I'd prefer piefeditor, without the double "d". Unnecessary callback to the other site.

Pythonidae?

It doesn’t sound very nice, I prefer the others’ suggestions: cutie pie, magpie, slice, etc.

I choose not to differentiate the two. I think we are all part of the same group

It's home instances that we are tribal about more than software interface.

Threadiverse = the subset of the Fediverse based on threaded conversations, applies to Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin, also nodeBB and somewhat flarum

Facebook would like to have a word

Meta did try to make "Threads", but (a) it failed miserably and (b) use of that term on Lemmy predates Meta trying to steal it. We don't need to let them define us! And all the more so if there's no better word - the next runner up in polls iirc is Forumverse, but people vastly prefer Threadiverse.:-)

Why? "Threadiverse" has been used before Threads became a thing, and "thread" is a generic term that has existed for ages and doesn't belong to Meta.

Pied pipers. Or just pipers. Piepers?

Jeepers creepers where'd you get those?

Although you got me thinking of this song

Slices, because they're a part of the pie.

If we want to keep it silly, then "pie-munchers' gets my nomination.

Serious answer, piefedians, fedians or piens for short.

Fun answer: pie-ons (peons), or of you want to separate the lurkers from the contributors, you have pie-eaters and pie-mongers

I like the idea of pieons, from peon (which I promise I don't mean derogatorily seeing as I'm not on piefed myself)

You must construct additional pieons

Lmao also the first thing I thought

I see this as even more reason to use my idea

my dyslexia ass will just read “pigeons”

I was thinking about that too. And you know what? After taking part in Mastodon, then Lemmy, now PieFed and discovering PeerTube I now more identify as a Fediverse user than a user of one of the parts

Fediversling/Fediverser lacks an unofficial-official name too, btw ;)

I'm thinking 'Fedder.'

One who Feds.

A true Fedizen right here. Also Threadizen?

Sorry, I thought the joke was implicit in your question, but the analog to "Lemmites" is "Piefites" which I think is just fine because say it out loud.

You know what, piefites is a good neutral option!

If there's a joke in saying it out loud or something my sleepy brain isn't finding it

Pie peeps occurs to me as a potential option

@Cris_Color Since they're armed with pies, how about "clowns"?

I like "Fedlings" personally.

Fedlings is excellent! and also works for all fedi users which is kinda nice since the exact platform is kinda less important :)

I really like it too. If it takes off, no need to attribute it to me. I'm sure other people have also thought of it.

Pie lovers but we are lemmings.

Thanks! It seemed like it might be fun 😊

Hope you have a lovely day!

I got a better one if you understand french : pivert.

Piefuckers

That's only for those on US-based instances... i.e. American Piefuckers

pie holes springs to mind

(to be clear i do not even remember what piefed is)

How about "Clowns" becsuse of all the "pie." :P

(I kid)

Im not very fednocentric so I like the federation to refer to all. Possibly influenced by an ip I like.

I feel like it would be more relevant to come up with a name for Threadiverse users as a whole. There's really not much to differentiate us as a community between lemmy and piefed.

You're not wrong. Maybe that'd make for another fluff thread some time down the road

I suggested "Fedlings" in the main thread and I think that could work for the fediverse at large.

There's a difference between the fediverse and the Threadiverse, though.

Let me propose "Spinner" because we're making thread.

Example : feddit.org users are Spinner.

I have been using "Pie-heads", b/c we are just crazy enough to make that work! :-P

pieheads

And the network of Lemmy + PieFed + Mbin (+ nodeBB + flarum) as the "Threadiverse", distinct from the wider Fediverse that also includes Mastodon, PixelFed, etc.

The fact that you name dropped NodeBB (a good example), Flarum (which has no working federation), but did not mention Discourse (which has only partially working federation and limited threadiverse support) gives me the warm and fuzzies 🤣

I need to stop mentioning flarum, but every time I do someone chimes in with "but it's coming soon(TM)!" So I just say what's listed in !fediverse@piefed.social as if that were somehow official or something:-P.

I'm also open to thoughts on "lemmites"! Its what I default to but I suppose it may be presumptuous for me to assume its what everyone uses, or wants to use :)

No idea, as much as I like Piefed, I'm not the biggest fan of the whole pie imagery related to it.

Curious to see what other people will come up with!

I dunno, I like pie. I like piefed.

Pie Eaters? Pie Feeders? Pie Fedditors?

As long as we're all Federales

Idk pies?
very creative of me I know /s

In my opinion: Lemmy is the name of the network, Piefed is simply the best way of accessing the network. Thus, most Piefed users are still Lemmings.

Tbf ActivityPub is the name of the protocol, and Fediverse is the name of the network, though is too generic so many of us have taken to calling us the "Threadiverse", for threaded-based conversational format (Lemmy + Mbin + PieFed + nodeBB + flarum), as distinct from the user-centric Mastodon, the image-based Pixelfed, video-based Loops (not federated yet iirc), etc. Notably though, while it is not so easy, people can send messages between these e.g. from Mastodon to Lemmy (or PieFed) and vice versa.

Pifedditors , piredditors , pieskibiders , piesigmarism
