I think we should have a rule to allow this kind of post only with a small summary of the update. I like to see them but sometimes the changelog is not worth a post or at least I can save a click if I know it's a small update with just some bugfix that doesn't concern me.
There are so many posts like this that are not worth the click, and it's getting pretty annoying. I would love a rule that says release log dumping is prohibited. I'm all for it. ๐โโ๏ธ
The other day I posted another article[1] from linuxiac.com highlighting only important changes, and someone suggested[2] to post link to actual change log, instead of URL to 3rd party article.
Sharing release log is not all about what โIโ find as interesting. It is rather a notification to all other users of the software that a list of new features or big fixes are now available.
Not all of us are actively tracking release cycle of tools we use.
Each of us have our own use cases. What I might find trivial, another person who frequent this forum might find really helpful.
If you are not interested in the same software or not intended to use it or not using it currently, feel free to skip the post.
That's what package managers are for, though. Or add the GitHub repo to your RSS reader if you want the details.
Lemmy is a social media, like others have mentioned in this thread I don't mind this type of post nearly as much if the person posting adds their opinion/analysis/summary.

I disagree with everything, but let's focus on the quote here. It's not that simple! I might use the software, and I would be interested in a new release if it had something exciting. But a lot of releases do not.
The very fact that "software X version Y released!" is posted here signals to me that there's something special that you are reacting to.
It's clear to me that you are just release dumping here though. It contributes to the noise of the community, in my personal opinion. (And in my experience, lots of people agree.)
Anything you're particularly excited about in the change log there, OP, or is this just release log dumping?
Not OP but I like that we can finally install from a URL (better late than never, heh)
Thank you for that addition, that's pretty cool indeed!

Today you are asking the other way around :D

That's not what I'm asking here, I'm asking you what you find interesting about the release. :D

Particularly this: https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/pull/6285
Cool, what do you reckon will be the use cases for this? Do you intend to use it somehow?
Granular control of permissions which was not possible earlier. The main aspect of sandboxing is access control. More granular it is the better.
Very good, I like it! ๐
We are welcome.
Nice. Instead manually parsing the stdout data, now there is a "proper API" to get information.
