An always up-to-date sheet with verified accounts from news organizations in the #Fediverse

submitted by

fingolas.eu/fediverse/overview.html

It's now way prettier and contains almost 1300 accounts.

You can show/hide columns, there is a powerful custom search and a button to download an CSV with the handles of all visible accounts for import. There's also the language, the country of origin, and a direct link.

Those pie charts are really hard to read. Those colors are too similar.

There are numbers, too.

But I'll look into it. I'm using DataWrapper and it's not very customizable.

My guess is that these out of the box colors are probably fine with 3 or 4 things. But with a lot of items, you’re really forced to rely on the key.

Yes, you're right. I changed tha graph for instances and will look into the others. But not today 😴

For a second it had me thinking Im color blind

Need an eyedropper tool to figure out which color represents each country

With a mouse, you can hover over it and it will highlight the corresponding part.

No mouse on phone :( why not use the full spectrum of colors? There's like a 1 shade difference between each one

That's the standard in DataWrapper. From my experience they surely have a blogpost on why this is the only right way to do it. πŸ˜‰

That's so weird, It's great info but so hard to parse!

I found their explanation and as I suspected, they don't want to distract you. πŸ˜‰

But they're also saying, that this is not the right chart for so many values. So I'll retry.

Doesn't seem to work on firefox Android

It takes a couple of seconds to load the data.

I also noticed that, maybe it would help to add some kind of loading progress indicator?

I am relatively new to the fediverse.

What is the verification process?

They'll basically have to have a link to the account in their website.

I muted the entire Flipboard instance. They were just annoying. If I need any of those, I use RSS.

AP is supposed to be interactive but I'm pretty sure none of them are looking at those. And the ones that are already have accounts so these are just redundant anyway.

How come so many of them are on flipboard? I wonder why they don't run their own instances

Because they were added by Flipboard.

Thanks for the answer. This might be a dumb question but what does that mean exactly? Is Flipboard approaching the different media outlets and offering to share their content on Flipboard's instance? If so, what do the media outlets get out of using flipboard versus their own instance or a more generic instance like mastadon.social?

Flipboard is it's own media platform that is embracing AP. So these are just mirrors from Flipboard publishers.

We (@heiseonline@social.heise.de) have federated accounts on #Flipboard: The problem is, you still can only see the interactions in the app. But there you can't easily switch between two accounts. So I have my private one activated – and won't see the interactions.

And you're right: For accounts from organizations, that are in the #Fediverse a federated account on Flipboard is not of much use. But there are some, that aren't otherwise reachable from the Fediverse. (RSS is another story, that's true)

Hey,

No much to add to this myself but it's awesome and you should keep up the good work!
