Currently, if you copy a range of cells in a spreadsheet program like LibreOffice Calc, Microslop Excel, Google Sheets, etc. and then paste into a textbox in PieFed, it will upload that as an image file representing that range of data. If that is what a user intends to do, it works great for that. But I think that more often than not, what the user actually wants to do when pasting in from a spreadsheet is for that data to be a markdown-formatted table, not an image file. I would like to see this as the default behaviour for PieFed.

Mastodon displays properly Markdown posts from other instances, but doesn't allow creating posts with it. I'm trying to fix this. I know there is glitch-soc, but I don't want to switch to a fork for a single feature. So is there a patch for mainstream Mastodon that adds this functionality?

I want to post something but I don't know the proper place to post it. How do I find the appropriate community is there a sub for that? I don't post to or read anything from lemmy world.

I’m trying to understand how PieFed’s voting culture is different. I’ll admit, I usually upvote things I like and downvote the rest. Sometimes, if a post has a low score, I don't even read the title, I just downvote and move on. I suspect I’m not the only one who does this.

Hello MULTIVERSE users and off-site visitors alike. We have recently defederated fedinsfw.app due to ongoing child pornography concerns which the fedinsfw admin team are aware of, and do not intend to address. Before I explain the key issue, I'd like to define a few terms:

Is it possible to listen to music hosted on Funkwhale from Mastoson (or any other fediverse social media for that matter)? I can see user accounts (though empty), but I couldn't get albums or songs working.

So I’ve been thinking about the whole PSKY winning the bid for WBD situation, plus a ton of other US News sites being owned and controlled by MAGA — and now that PSKY owns massive legacy brands like CNN* and platforms like *TikTok, it got me wondering:

Is there a tool that automates transferring of blocks from a Lemmy account to a Piefed account? I'm one of those people that curates All and have thousands of blocked communities so it's not feasible to manually transfer that.

As it stands right now, it looks like we have to just judge based off of how old posts are to see if we can still interact with a community.

The one thing puts me off Piefed is the UI. I tried the different available themes, but outside of Irix - 1998, nothing felt right. Irix - 1998 itself is too bright, so i tried it with dark reader but it still feel off put

I'm not sure if this is being worked on or has already been suggested, but this seems to be a feature missing from Piefed. I personally used to use it when I was on Lemmy but haven't been able to on Piefed. I understand if this is difficult to implement but I feel like it would be a good security feature that seems to oddly be missing from Piefed.

Most major platforms still rely on a very old identity model: one username, tied to one email, tied to one permanent account. Once something goes wrong — lost email, deleted account, forgotten recovery info — the identity is gone forever, even if the user wants to return.

Today I was just thinking about how PieFed (and the fediverse in general) reminds me of an earlier internet that I used to like, where "social media" was just phpBB forums running on old computers in peoples' basements. And I thought, "I just wish PieFed looked a little different to reflect that. Too bad there aren't any themes for it."

Hi there! So I understand that federated systems can speak to one another and interact. My question I guess is should I be using my Mastodon account to log into PieFed, and PixelFed, and Bookwyrm? Or do I need to create specific accounts for all these services, just as I did before?
